Bands : The Ballistics and aKing.

The Ballistics getting ready to roll

I haven't gone and shot bands in quite a while so when I heard that aKing was playing at Aandklas in Stellenbosch I thought it would be a cool gig to get back into it.  Lighting in Aandklas is not the greatest so it would also be a good opportunity to test out the 5D MKIII's low light capability.  It's a small venue so I decided to leave the 24-105 and 70-200 behind and just took the following.

In hindsight I should probably have taken the 70-200 with next time to get some closer shots too.  The venue was pretty packed and was often difficult to get close up to the band.

I shot manual with my shutter speed set to about 1/160 to be sure to freeze motion. Aperture I generally kept at F4 on the wide angle and around F2 on the 50mm and adjusted the ISO to expose the shot correctly.  My ISO ranged between 4000 and 10000.  I only used the flash with the wide angle - bounced the light off the ceiling and had a flash card on it as well.

Post processing done in Lightroom 5 and some with Photoshop CS6.

Here are my top shots of The Ballistics (Opening band) and then of aKing.
