JMC 2014
Cold.Wet.Windy.
The Jonkershoek Mountain Challenge is one of three events part of the Mountain Challenge Series held by Wildrunner. The Heldeberg Mountain Challenge (HMC) and the Marloth Mountain Challenge (MMC) make up the other two. The JMC has 3 distances - 10km, 22km and the 36km challenge. Check out Wildrunner's website for more info.
The weather this year was pretty hectic - lots of rain, wind and in some places on the 36km reaching below zero temperatures. My gear consisted of the following
- Canon 5D MKIII
- Canon 17-40 F4L
- Canon 50mm F1.4
- Canon 70-200 F2.8 L
- Canon 430EX II Flash
- Lowpro Flipside 400AW
- Sea to summit dry bag
- Gopro 3
- Lexar Professional 800x CF Cards
It was tricky to keep my gear dry while shooting. The Lowepro bag has a rain cover which is great. Also being a 'flipside' bag you can get your gear out without needing to remove the rain cover. When I was running around on the trail I kept the camera in the dry bag for easy access and when shooting...not much choice other than testing out Canon's weather sealing! All worked great though with no issues.
Here are some of my fav shots from the event.
